Vasco: Angry locals from the Mangor Hll containment zone have demanded for mass testing of COVID-19 and for putting a stop to stigmatization they have been facing.
Locals have demanded that the containment zone be open and out of frustration, some of them dumped grocery items on the roads for stray cattle to eat.
In a video that has been widely circulated on social media platforms, residents from the containment zone pointed out that they have only been used by the politicians for votes.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Dr Rajendra Borkar, Medical Superintendent of Chicalim sub-district Hospital, informed that the swab collection resumed in the containment zone. On Tuesday around 18 samples were collected and sent for testing.
When Mormugao Deputy Collector Sachin Dessai, was asked about the incident about people dumping grocery items, he said that the administration has been trying their best to provide essential items to all the people in the containment zone and efforts are on to reach out to everyone.
“The Chief Secretary, Health Secretary and other officials also visited the containment zone and conducted an inspection on the ground situation here,” he added.
