Over a thousand people pass through the city’s main bus stand on a daily basis, most for work. Being centrally located, the bus stand serves to connect people with the rest of North Goa.
But with hundreds of buses plying to and from it, the infrastructure is in dire need of attention. Shutters that are supposed to shelter passengers from either the hot sun or pouring rain seem to get no attention as patches have blown away with the wind.
Down to the ground, and missing bricks that make the pathway give way for muddy potholes that cause inconvenience to passengers and buses that pass through.
Another problem is of the constant stench of urine as city buses leave the bus stand. It’s not surprising to see people hold their noses as they pass by. Despite having a Sulab Shauchalaya of its own, the water supply at the toilet is limited and on some days non-existent.
Peak hours at the bus stand are another cause of frustration for many commuters as entering and leaving the place takes more time than usual. Parked Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) buses crowd the exit, especially during the day making exit of city and other transit buses difficult.
The bad condition reflects badly on the capital city with the regular influx of tourists complaining of lack of basic infrastructure and facilities. Shop owners inside the bus stand too have constantly complained of crumbling walls and falling infrastructure.
