That Goa, a popular tourist destination like Mexico, could employ differently-abled persons as crime fighters is something yet to be examined by the ministry.
Goa too has a large number of differently-abled persons who get employed only in clerical jobs in government departments.
Mexico seems to have shown the way of creating opportunities for this segment who could play a vital role in the tourism sector and serve as an additional support system to the existing crime fighting action plan at tourist locations.
Presently, the government takes on retired officers from the police services and cadets in addition to the IRB patrol teams deployed along the coast line recently.
While Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar was not contactable for his views on this issue, while speaking to this paper on Monday said that plans are in the offing to install cameras on the beaches of Goa.
“We want to put cameras on all the beaches of Goa which will serve as a good surveillance system,” he said adding that the proposal will be sent to the central ministry for funding.
The plan is to have the cameras installed at least before the next tourism season begins.
