Ineptitude of authorities on display as pre-monsoon showers lash

PONDA: Even though the monsoon is expected in Goa on June 6, the pre-monsoon showers lashed heavily Ponda taluka for two whole days.
It brought relief to residents from the unbearable summer heat. After a gap of a few years Ponda city witnessed floods at Upper Bazzar, PMC garden, and even at Ponda bus stand. 
Chocked nullahs resulted in rain water entering some shops at Ponda bus stand and created hardship for locals and visitors in the city. 
The nullah flowing from Dada Vaidya Chowk was chocked due to plastic and thermacol and rain water flooded the city road.
At Curti Khandepar Panchayat which is situated close to Ponda city, work on the national highway is progressing but has obstacles to the flow of traffic. A interstate bus slipped due to the accumulated mud dumped for widening the national highway.  A domestic gas supplying vehicle was trapped in a hole of the sewerage chamber after the cover on it collapsed. According to locals it is risky matter to carry out sewerage work, gas pipeline laying work while widening the roads due to a risk of fatal accidents occurring. 
At Curti, sewerage laying work is still progressing despite locals demanding a stop and the restoration of the road. 
Even though Ponda MLA Ravi Naik conducted several meetings on pre-monsoon preparations and authorities of different government offices agreed to complete the government ongoing works before 15 May, it appears that rains exposed them.
