MARGAO: Maina Curtorim Police registered a case of theft against unknown person following a complaint by Umakant Lawande a local businessman as the incident occurred at around midnight when Umakant returned home at Mogalli after closing his shop at Malbhat in Margao.
Umakant who has a wholesale liquor business carries the cash with him home as he closes his shop in the night when banks are not open to deposit the money and as usual came home last night with cash amounting to Rs 6.50 lakh.
After parking his vehicle outside his compound he entered the veranda of his house and kept the bag having the money on the sit out at the verandah as he searched for the key of the house to open the door as he did not wish to disturb the family that had gone to sleep by then.
However, as he was removing the key from his trouser pocket somebody who was hiding in the plants adjacent to the verandah grabbed the bag and ran fled from the compound by jumping over the rear compound wall.
