Thefts, rescue operations ring in the New Year

Traffic cops and lifeguards had a hectic time during the last 48 hours with close to 15 road accidents reported and around 18 persons rescued while swimming all along the coastline of Goa.

PANJIM: Traffic cops and lifeguards had a hectic time during the last 48 hours with close to 15 road accidents reported and around 18 persons rescued while swimming all along the coastline of Goa.

According to reports from the Traffic cell there was one major accident, and around 14 minor accidents all over Goa till midnight (December 31).

Traffic SP V Borkar said that overall the scenario during the last 48 hours which included New Year’s eve was well streamlined and traffic flow into Goa was well handled by the traffic police.

“We had no major or untoward incidents reported from anywhere in the State,” Borkar said.

On the beach, it was again a very hectic time for lifeguards particularly at Candolim and Calangute with several tourists rescued while swimming in unsafe zones.

Reports have poured in from almost all other towers both in the North and South of rescue operations particularly on New Year’s day.
