Thief who had escaped from hospital rearrested

VASCO: A thief arrested by the Vasco police and who escaped from the hospital was rearrested by the police on Sunday night. The thief Ramesh Subbarao had escaped from the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, where he was taken for a medical check-up on April 28. 

Vasco PI Kapil Nayak said that the police had formed two teams to nab the absconding accused, who was finally caught at Chicalim. The police had registered a case against Ramesh for decamping with cash of Rs 2.5 lakh after breaking open window glass of a parked car in Vasco in February, this year.

The police had also sent a team headed by PI Ganesh Matondkar to Tamil Nadu, two days back in a bid to nab the accused while another team led by PSI Swapnil Naik and constable Purushottam Naik were keeping a watch on his movements outside the State. Finally, he was nabbed at Chicalim.  The accused had earlier given his name as P Ramesh but the police found that his real name was Ramesh Subbarao. The police produced Ramesh before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, who remanded him to five days police custody.
