PANJIM: The third round of portfolio allocation to Ministers in the Manohar Parrikar cabinet is expected to take place within a fortnight.
Parrikar told media persons that portfolio allocation could not take place now as the Governor was not available. “After Anant Chaturdashi (11th day of Ganesh Festival) I will allocate additional portfolios to the Ministers. Take another week from September 5,” he said.
The CM, who holds nearly 50 portfolios currently, will keep crucial departments like Finance, Home, Mining, Education, and Civil Aviation amongst others.
In the first round in March, nine MLAs were sworn in and were allocated portfolios. These were Francis D’Souza (Urban Development), Pandurang Madkaikar (Power), Sudin Dhavalikar (PWD), Manohar Azgaonkar (Tourism), Vijai Sardesai (Town & Country Planning), Vinod Palyekar (Water Resources), Jayesh Salgaocar (Housing), Rohan Khaunte (Revenue) and Govind Gaude (Art and culture).
In April, Vishwajit Rane and Mauvin Godinho were inducted in the cabinet, and the Chief Minister had distributed additional portfolios to the nine Ministers along with these two.
Rane got Health and Godinho was given Panchayat. D’Souza was given Law and Judiciary, Madkaikar got Social Welfare, Dhavalikar got Transport, Azgaonkar was given Sports, Sardesai got Agriculture, Palyekar got Fisheries, Salgaocar got RDA, Khaunte was given IT and Gaude got Tribal Welfare.
