CALANGUTE: The ninth edition of Sunburn kicked off at Vagator on Sunday, with thousands of people from across 50 countries getting enthralled by electronic dance music (EDM) powerhouses.
The stage was over 200 feet long and had the cranium of a lion at the centre; drawing inspiration from Indian ethnicity, it was titled ‘Empire of the Sun’.
While the food courts, adventure-sport areas, flea market and exotics bars were packed with party goers, on-site camping turned out to be a special experience. Campers were positioned atop the hills, where they had a view of the entire 5 lakh square metres of festival land.
The audience went delirious as Sam Feldt performed his most popular singles, while Dyro, Nucleya, Paji, Paperqueen and Juliet Sikora also captivated the crowd with their beats and energy.
Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, a Belgian DJ duo composed of brothers Dimitri Thivaios and Michael Thivaios, flew in to bring the house down for day one. They currently hold the top spot on DJ Magazine’s annual Top 100 DJs poll. They played their world-famous hits like ‘Waves, ‘Wakanda’ and ‘Mammoth’ and a set of dance music anthems.
With a combination of some of the biggest names in EDM and a selection of the burgeoning talent from India and around the world, dance music aficionados were spoilt for choice.
Sunburn Season 9 saw the largest artist village in Asia, elaborate food courts, cruises, after-parties, an open-air movie theatre, a spacious flea market and more.
Day two will see a performance from KYGO, who has come to India for the first time, and opening sets by Anish Sood. Sam Feldt, Blurry Slur, Bassjackers, Echofloat and Candice Redding will keep the music going.
