PONDA: Thousands thronged Adpoi for the traditional five-day Ganesh idol immersion procession on Tuesday evening. Devotees participating in the procession danced to the beats of drums and dhols chanting Ganpati Bappa Morya Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya. Sixteen families participated in procession which culminated with the immersion of Ganesh idols.
Of the several floats, two were based on themes as one created awareness on garbage menace and the other depicted the ban on Chinese products.
A local Prashant Naik said, “Around 16 families jointly celebrate this festival. We made the tableau to observe tradition and encourage people who gather in large numbers from all parts of Goa to witness the Ganesh immersion procession.”
Another Adpoi resident Suraj Naik said, “We have been carrying on this unique tradition which special in Goa. Since last year we have been coming out with some tableau on social issues.”
Union Minister Shripad Naik said, “Due to the traditional concept, the family members are united once a year, who otherwise live in the different parts of country.
He said he had spoken with the Chief Minister to make this unique Ganesh immersion tradition of Adpoi a tourist attraction in Goa.”
Shripad Naik, Sadanand Naik along with the families of Khunebatkar, Borkar, Khandepakar, Vastha, Taribhat, Mule, Tari and Mardolkar celebrate the festival.
