Three accused in illegal IPL betting arrested

PANJIM: In a major raid conducted at a building in Green Valley Pilerne on Saturday, Porvorim police seized six mobile phones and a laptop worth Rs 1, 50,000 and arrested three accused for running an illegal IPL cricket betting group.

During this raid — Ronak Mali, Pawan Hira Lal Sharma and Mohit Ladu Lal Vyas, all hailing from Rajasthan, were found accepting bets through WhatsApp Messenger and other messaging apps.

PI informed that all the accused had confessed of running an illegal betting business. The offence was registered against all the accused under Section 3 and 4 of The Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976.

According to Porvorim PI Anant Gaonkar, the raid was conducted upon receiving the reliable information regarding illegal IPL betting business being run at Pilerne.

The team that conducted the raid comprised Gaonkar, PSI Sitram Malik, Head Constable Sandeep Parab and Utkarsh Dessai.
