The rains that commenced on Saturday evening continued non-stopped till Sunday morning, while the gushing waters from mountainous terrains of the taluka, the rivers swollen, submerging all the low-lying areas, especially in the taluka’s rivulets.
The three major rivers Galgibaga, Talpona and Saleri flowed almost at the danger mark, while most of the low-lying areas on the banks of rivulets at Loliem, Poinguinim, Devabhaga and Agonda remained submerged with water racing onto the streets and some residential areas.
Parishioners attending early morning masses were the most affected, as only thin presence was witnessed for the Sunday’s first mass in almost all the parishes in Canacona taluka.
At Agonda, few parishioners were seen walking their way or driving through the knee deep waters to reach the church, as the over flown floodwaters from the nearby rivulet had submerged the road on both sides of the village bridge.
Even the parishioners who walked safely in the early morning, found floods had submerged the village street to new heights, after the first mass got over and were forced to walk through knee-high flood waters, deciding escape early, fearing the floods might turn bad at later. However, sun came out at about 8.30 am on Sunday and it remained dry and sunny day with no rains throughout the day.
