PERNEM: Pernem Deputy Collector on Thursday demolished three structures at Morjim which were in violation of CRZ rules.
The demolition started at about 9.30 am and continued till 2 pm with a strong force of about 40 policemen, a few labourers and heavy earth moving machinery.
According to sources, the respondents cooperated with the demolition squad and the operation was peaceful. Pernem PI Tushar Lotlikar and Anjuna PI Paresh Naik along with the Deputy Collector and Mamlatdar of Pernem were also present at the site.
According to Pernem Deputy Collector Narayan Gad, a restaurant belonging to one person and some cottages of a hotel were demolished at Morjim.
“There were three structures in the CRZ area and before I took charge of Pernem, GCZMA had already issued demolition orders in 2011-12 and the orders were not executed,” Gad told Herald.
“GCZMA had given directions to the Pernem deputy collector that in case the respondents, that is, those involved in illegal constructions in the CRZ area, do not remove the structures, then the Pernem deputy collector was directed to remove them,” informed Gad.
“Accordingly, we requested for a demolition squad from the Panjim deputy collector Sabhaji Shetty. The structures that were removed were identified by the GCZMA members and such operations will continue,” added Gad.
When contacted, Sabaji Shetty said whenever required, he shall provide the demolition squad. “I was requested to provide a demolition squad and I did so. When such request comes, I shall do the needful,” he added.
GCZMA Member Secretary Srinet Kothwale told Herald that they had sent reminders to the deputy collector to execute the pending orders from the GCZMA of the CRZ violations.
“The deputy collector of Pernem is acting on these orders. During a GCZMA meeting, we decided to execute all the orders that were pending for the last 3 years, be it execution, inspection or demolition. This shall continue till all pending orders are executed,” added Kothwale.
