Three injured in Cortalim accident

VASCO: A woman and two of her granddaughters were injured after their van collided into a JCB in Cortalim on Monday.

According to Verna police, the incident occurred at around 5.50 pm, when the JCB driver, while proceeding towards Panjim from Verna, suddenly swerved to the side of the main Panjim-Margao road, opposite Peter’s Bar and Restaurant. At the same time, a Maruti van with five occupants from Majorda was proceeding towards Panjim from Verna. On noticing the JCB ahead, the van driver applied the brakes, but could not prevent his vehicle from colliding into the JCB. While the van driver and person sitting beside him escaped unharmed, a 50-year-old woman and two of her granddaughters, aged around 15-16 years, who were sitting on the back seat, suffered injuries. The injured persons were shifted to GMC, where they are being treated. 
The police have booked the JCB driver, while HC Sudhakar Jadhav is investigating the case.
