VASCO: The Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Baina, Shekhar Khadapkar has appealed to tiatr directors to avoid showing vulgar scenes and stop making personal comments through their tiatr as the same could create confusion and chaos.
Khadapkar made this appeal in the light of an untoward incident during a tiatr performance at the Ravindra Bhavan, on Sunday.
He was speaking to reporters after a press conference called by the Ravindra Bhavan officials to announce the forthcoming annual Ashadhi Ekadashi programme to be held on July 15.
“Tiatr is form of traditional Goan art and the same should continue to flourish in the state and abroad, However, I feel that the directors producing these tiatr should be little more cautious and should avoid vulgar scenes and comments that hurt public sentiments,” he said
“I have to say this, because, on Sunday afternoon, there was an incident during a tiatr performance when some locals from Vasco went on the stage with their objections and stopped the play. They were annoyed as the artist depicted some vulgar scenes about canoe operators from Khariwado and took the name of a local canoe leader during the Tiatr performance. Though that issue was resolved, however, if similar trend continues, then, there are high possibilities that some people from the audience might take things personal and in anger they might even damage Ravindra Bhavan property,” he said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the annual Ashadhi Ekadashi programme, Khadapkar said that Ravindra Bhavan has decided to celebrate Ashadhi Ekadashi by organizing several cultural programmes for the people on July 15 from 2.30 pm onwards.
“We have decided to make this annual event a grand success. Therefore, we have planned a high school level fancy dress competition on the theme of Saints. Also, we would be holding devotional concerts of renowned Zee Sa Re Ga Ma fame artists Pratamesh Lagate and Mugda Vaishpayan. Besides, this would be the first time that the all Goa Mahila Bhajani competition finals which used to take place at Kala Academy would be here,” he said.
