MARGAO: Responding to the National Hindu Movement’s demand for a Censor Board for tiatrs, St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh stated that tiatrs don’t need censorship and the government should not work towards the same. He added, “Tiatr is a medium of bringing out the troubles of society, and it does not need a Censor Board.”
He was speaking at the Tiatr Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony organised by Tiatr Academy Goa at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Monday. T Britto, Sharon Mazarello, Xavier Gomes, Diniz, Fatima D’Souza and Lourenco De Terekhol were bestowed with lifetime achievement awards.
Wagh further said, “Kala Academy has several programs lined up every day, which disallows the staging of tiatrs there. I have propagated an idea of having a hall exclusively for tiatrs. I have already spoken to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, and he had promised to give me land for the same. The land has already been confirmed, and after taking possession of it, we will soon have an exclusive facility for tiatrs.”
He added, “Support schemes on the lines of agriculture can be devised for tiatrists. If the beginning 15 shows of tiatrs are shown with government incentive, then that tiatr can do better in the state.”
