Tiatrists brought this Govt to power. They didn’t object to us then

Reacting to the impending move to have a censor board for stage productions, the president of Tiatr Academy of Goa, Prince Jacob, made four important and scathing observations to Herald

u It isn’t really necessary. The tiatr has been around for 123 years now. There was a censor board during the Portuguese time and if they enforce a censor board how different will this government be from the Portuguese one? We are in a democracy today; there is no need for a censor board.
u People will not agree with it at all. What happens is that we sing a song about something that has happened a day before. If the censor board comes, we will have to give that same song three months in advance. They will take the example of Marathi nataks. But they rarely ever have a natak. Meanwhile in Goa, for Easter season, there are at least 30 tiatr productions made.
u The government asked the TAG to impose some rules. We put this to the board, and a month ago they rejected it on the basis that censor board is not applicable for us.
u If this government came to power, it was because of tiatr, because we used to portray the wrong doings of the previous government. At that time, they never objected to us.
