Tivim school picnic bus goes off the road at Curchorem

Student, teacher hospitalised; twenty others escape with minor injuries

CURCHOREM: A teacher and a student of St Ann’s School, Tivim were hospitalised, while 20 other students escaped with minor injuries after the bus in which they had gone for a picnic, went off the road at Oddar-Curchorem on Thursday evening.
According to sources, 61 students and 3 teachers were returning by bus after attending the school picnic at Salaulim Dam. 
“On reaching Oddar near the St Sebastian chapel, the driver of the bus, which was following the other seven picnic buses, lost the control of the vehicle and went off the road. The vehicle later rammed into the roadside coconut trees.
Locals immediately rushed to the site and informed the police and the fire station officials, who later rescued the students, who were stuck in the bus and shifted them to the Primary Health Centre, Cacora by arranging another private bus.
Teacher – Nalina Jha, and student – Alka Naik were shifted to Hospicio, Margao while another 20 students, who sustained minor injuries, were administered first-aid.
Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai is investigating the case.
