NACHINOLA: A team from Goa TMC led by their National Vice President and former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro, took a leap forward in giving Nachinola girl Siddhi Naik justice. The case of Sidhi who died an unnatural death, in August, widely believed to be a cold-blooded murder, has been sought to be brushed aside by the State government. Even an expert committee constituted by the GMC concluded that the “manner of her death” needs to be investigated.

This specific point was raised by former minister Babul Supriyo after meeting Siddhi’s parents.

The Goa TMC leaders were led by Faleiro, former MLA Lavoo Mamledar, Advocate Yatish Naik and others. The leaders spoke to the family and also checked on the police investigations and reports.

“We are going to raise this in Parliament. We want justice right now. We won’t wait,” TMC MP Mohua Moitra said on Monday after visiting Siddhi’s family members.

She added, “What we want is justice for Goan girls so that their parents don’t have to think about where their daughters go and at what time. This family has lost their daughter. The police have done nothing but add to their misery. The police have not done the postmortem as per law.”

“Only one doctor has done the postmortem when ideally there should have been three. Doctors never said it’s a suicide yet the police were quick to declare it a suicide. The CCTV footage went miraculously missing that night. How? Why?” she questioned. She added, “The most important thing the father said that – I’ve lost my daughter and I don’t want anyone to go through what I have gone through. There are many things amiss. Goa Police has not followed standard procedure. Everyone seems to be hand-in-glove to cover this case up. We will help this family and take this up in Delhi.”

Meanwhile, Siddhi’s father Siddhesh Naik said, “Doctors did not conclude whether it was a case of suicide or murder but they concluded it was a case of drowning. How did they reach this conclusion no one knows. Who tore her clothes? If it was actually a suicide, what explains that her clothes were torn?”

Fiery TMC MP Moitra spent some quiet moments with Siddhi’s mother and consoled her. The TMC plans to amplify this issue as an example of its focus on the deteriorating law and order in the State. It has made this one of its important campaign issues. The safety of women was an important point in the party’s charge sheet which was released later on Monday afternoon.
