MARGAO: A fishing trawler boat ran aground at Betalbatim Beach on Monday morning.
The trawler was unmanned and is supposed to be one of the 20 boats that went missing from Tamil Nadu waters due to cyclonic activity in the ocean.
The Coastal Police, Coast Guard and local police too rushed to the site to check on the grounded ship on Monday morning. The eyewitness accounted by a lifeguard at Betalbatim informed that the boat named “Periyanayaki” was unmanned while it drifted on to the beach. The engine was in running state and having found realised that the trawler is not from Goa, the lifeguard immediately informed his superiors.
The lifeguards meanwhile checked whether there were persons in the boat but did not find any.
The trawler is reportedly from Tamil nadu and is one of the 20 boats that went missing during the cyclone. The crew was reportedly rescued and taken to safety by the Tamil Nadu Coast Guard. However, another boat of the 20 missing boats has also remained untraced according to the reports.
