…to ask Centre for funds towards NREGS

The South Goa Zilla Panchayat on Friday has resolved to ask the Union government to sanction funds towards the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme directly to the Zilla Panchayats.
The resolution tabled by Member Nelly Rodrigues was adopted unanimously after members pointed out that the district Panchayat bodies have been sidelined by the state government in not just the implementation of the employment guarantee scheme, but other central schemes as well.
Members lamented that though the Zilla Panchayats have been entrusted great role to play in the implementation of the employment guarantee scheme, the state government has totally ignored the district Panchayat body by entrusting the work to the RDA department.
