To celebrate Diwali, young and old pray for rains to subside

PONDA: With just three days to go for Narkasur competition on the eve Diwali, the young and old in Ponda town are praying for the rains to subside.
There is fear among people that rains may spoil their Diwali celebrations and hence the prayer for the rains to subside.
A Ponda youth Mahesh Naik said that the Narkasur effigy competition at Curti has been cancelled due to rains. “We hope and pray that it may not rain on October 26 and we will be able to enjoy the festival,” he said.
Some youth, having undying spirit, despite the forecast of rains on the eve of Diwali, are making Narkasurs under huge sheds.
“We want to celebrate Diwali. Therefore, the youth are praying that it should not rain on the night of October 26 when Narkasura effigies will be out on roads and the same will be burnt early morning next day, to mark the victory of good over evil,” Naik added.
