MARGAO: Several members of the toddy tappers community have alleged that ‘All Goa Toddy Tappers Association’ is engaged in issuing OBC caste certificates illegally.
Addressing the media persons on Friday at Margao, Mario Coutinho alleged that maximum OBC certificates issued by the Association since 2010 are bogus, and hence the concerned person involved in the conspiracy should be taken to task.
“It is very shocking to note that illegal activities are going on in the name of the Toddy Tappers association. Firstly, the registration of the association has not been renewed for the last several years. The actual name of the association has been changed and caste certificates are being issued illegally,” said Mario.
He further said the people involved in the illegalities are taking money from the people in order to issue caste certificates and that too without verifying the documents.
“It is compulsory to verify the documents of the applicant before issuing the caste certificate. However, one of the clerks of the association goes on issuing the certificates by taking the money. Such illegalities need to be stopped,” he said.
The information collected through the Right to Information Act (RTI) clearly exposes the illegalities.
Mario and a few other members of the community have now initiated a move to make awareness in order to stop the illegalities.
