Total 43 candidates in Ponda taluka

PONDA: As many as 25 nominations were filed on the last day, taking the total to 43 candidates contesting ZP polls in Ponda taluka. An interesting contest is on the cards for the Usgao ZP polls as one rebel candidate has filed a nomination against the MGP candidate, despite an alliance between the MGP and BJP.

The candidates who filed their nominations to the Usgao ZP seat, which is reserved for an OBC candidate, are Dyaneshwar Naik, Tushar Balve, Sidhant Naik, Laxmikant Naik and Pundalik Naik as independent candidates. Adarsha Naik and Bharat alias Umesh Naik filed nominations for the MGP.
As part of the MGP-BJP alliance, the Usgao ZP seat was allotted to the MGP, but a rebel BJP candidate has also filed a nomination and this could affect the prospects of the MGP candidate.
Those who filed their nominations from Shiroda ZP constituency on Saturday included Nagu Saju Kavlekar and Dayanand Surya Naik for the BJP, while the independent candidates filing their nominations were Avduth Naik, Hari Naik, Vaibavi Shirodkar and Sebastiao Rodrigues.
Candidates filing their nominations from Borim ZP constituency were Deepak Naik Borkar and Surendra Borkar for the BJP and Manuray Naik as independent. This constituency is reserved for an OBC candidate.
For the Kavalem ZP constituency, the candidates who filed their nominations were Chitra Fadte for the MGP and Reshma Naik as independent candidate. 
Premanand Havlu Gavde filed as independent candidate for the Veling ZP constituency, which is reserved for ST candidates.
Independent candidates who filed their nominations from Curti ZP constituency were Adarsha Toraskar, Nilkant Naik, Avduth Gobre, Imtiyaz Sayyad and Kalidas Khandeparkar.
For the Bethki-Khandola ZP constituency, which is reserved for women, Vishakha Gaonkar filed as an independent 
candidate.
