CARMONA: Tourism Department officials on Monday evening inspected the Zalor beach in Carmona village and neighbouring beaches following the media reports on garbage washed ashore.
Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge congratulated the media for highlighting the vital issue that forced the tourism minister to take prompt and strict action against this menace.

“The Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar had dispatched his OSD Nelson Fernandes as well as officials from the Tourism Department and the outsourced beach cleaning firm on a fact finding mission to Carmona beach following my public appeal to the Tourism Department to provide support to clean up the large scale garbage littering on the Zalor beach in Carmona. The Carmona beach stretch was inspected and under the instructions of the tourism Minister, the OSD Nelson issued strict directions to the beach cleaning firm to clear all the remaining garbage on the beach to the satisfaction of the sarpanch. Also the panchayat was requested to maintain a check on the cleaning operations of the beach by the company for which the government was paying huge fees regularly,” said Jorge.
“A team led by me also inspected the material recovery facility (MRF) where the collected garbage from the beach was stored. The company was also directed to clear all the garbage from the Carmona MRF at their own cost,” added Jorge.
