Tourism Dept razes road leading to Morjim beach

Acting on the directives of the High Court, Tourism Department on Wednesday razed the illegal road leading to the Morjim beach, which was constructed by a Russian firm.
According to reports, the Tourism Department razed the 800 mts long road, which was constructed using mud clay. The road was constructed in the government property by violating the CRZ norms and without obtaining any permission.
It may be recalled that two Russian businessmen had purchased 19,906 sq mts of land in the name of the firm by violating FEMA rules. The property has been confiscated by the government, besides the illegal construction was also demolished.
On Wednesday afternoon, Tourism Director Assistant Director J R Gracias with the help of local panchayat and police razed the illegal road constructed by the Russian firm.
Pernem Joint Mamlatdar Darshana Narulkar and Morjim Sarpanch Ratnakar Shetgaonkar were present during the drive.
The Tourism Department also demolished a compound wall which was illegally constructed in government property by one local.
