MAPUSA: In a tragic incident, a tourist got drowned at the Baga beach while Drishti livesavers managed to rescue another from meeting watery grave.
According to Drishti, lifesaver Narayan Govekar observed two tourists venturing into the deep waters in the crowded and red-flagged area at Baga beach.
He immediately rushed to caution them to come out of the water while also alerting others to move back to a safe distance on the beach away from the water break zone.
On noticing the duo caught in the strong rip currents, lifesaver Narayan managed to rescue one of them and later rushed to the other’s rescue.
While running, Narayan sustained a “ligament tear” due to the uneven surface and called for backup.
Meanwhile, supervisor Manguesh Gawas and BSP Girish rushed to the spot after informing supervisor Nilesh to launch a jetski. They observed that lifesaver Narayan was seriously injured and was unable to move.
He was immediately ferried in an ambulance while efforts to rescue the other male tourist continued.
All lifesavers were put on high alert and an intense operation was launched to locate the missing tourist. Hours later, the body of the missing male tourist was washed ashore at Baga.
