Tourists rush to Calangute on I-Day eve

CALANGUTE: A large number of tourists rushed to the coastal villages of Calangute on the eve of Independence Day. Most hotels and resorts had a good occupancy rate, while the there was a higher demand for rent-a-bikes and cars. Many outstation vehicles were also seen in the area.

The beaches of Calangute and Baga also witnessed a huge gathering of tourists. With shacks closed for the monsoons, it was a big opportunity for small gaddas to sell their tea and ‘batata wadas’. While some domestic tourists preferred these eateries, others brought their own cooking equipment, like gas cylinders and stoves, in their vehicles.
Tourists will have to be careful while riding or driving in Calangute due to the village’s potholed roads. A sudden fall could ruin one’s holiday.
