PANJIM: Even though the State traffic cell drafted the best traffic plan for the Lusofonia Games inaugural, the traffic chaos marked the first day of the event at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda.
In the absence of proper traffic signals and signage with clear directions of the venue, people were left confused, resulting into traffic chaos. As most of the roads were notified as one way for the vehicular traffic during the event, people faced lot of trouble further leading to traffic congestions.
It took more than one and half hour for a common man to reach to the inaugural venue, as the entire stretch right from Verna to Fatorda saw heavy vehicular traffic moving at a snail’s pace. Though the traffic police along with paramilitary forces were stationed to manage traffic movement, the chaos was beyond their control.
Further, visitors were also seen complaining of temporary roads, having its approach to the Fatorda stadium. The mud roads with no concrete with speed breakers and dividers also created problems to the traffic.
Over 500 private and government vehicles were present at the venue apart from another 450 Maharashtra owned vehicles, hired by state government for ferrying VIPs, participants, spectators and media persons.
