MARGAO: The traffic flow in Margao near the Fatima Convent High School and the Loyola High School was smooth on Thursday afternoon after police deployed the methods that were discussed in the meeting on Wednesday.
Usually chaotic the traffic moved smoothly in Margao barring some small aberrations at the Police Station-Loyola school road junction.
At least five police men were seen actively monitoring the situation along with Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Prabodh Shirvoikar and Margao Traffic Cell PI Sanjay Dalvi.
Many of the parents who either remained adamant on picking their child from right in front of the gate blocking the free movement of vehicles seemed to act responsibly.
However, some parents still attempted to park cars on road sides which indeed created some problems, but temporarily.
Some parents complained that it gets difficult for them to pick up their child during rains forcing them to park their vehicles in front of the gate.
Some parents have welcomed the move keeping the internal ring road from Loyola to BSNL and further Fatima exit gate closed. SP Shrivoikar has requested the parents to act more responsible in order to avoid the daily confusion.
Meanwhile, it was observed that chaos at the Police Station-Loyola junction is a result of parking of various vehicles which are of parents as well as that of people coming to the police station.
A commuter Santosh Bandodkar said that the city bus stand that is close by, has a lot of open space which is wasted because of carts and other commercial vehicles. “If this place is vacated, the problem will be resolved to a great extent,” he said.
The new system of traffic flow is however not time tested as the chaos quadruples during rains and absence of police. It will be interesting to see how the police manage to continue the effort to keep the town free from congestion.
