The incident took place at around 10 in the morning which led to traffic congestion since it is one of the major junctions that connects from Pernem, Siolim and Thivim.
Later, the electricity department removed the collapsed signal rights.
The signal board was installed two months ago on a 30-year-old poll. A local said, “Instead of only filling up the pockets with some projects, the MLA should work for overall development of Mapusa and the municipality should pay attention to this type of polls.”
When contacted, MMC chairperson said, “It is the responsibility of electricity department to take care of the cables above ground. There will be some cables which are put up illegally on which the electricity department should take action. Till now, the municipality has not given permission for any cable installation above the ground. Instruction has been given to electricity department and traffic department to restore the signal as soon as possible.”
