Tragedy hit a newly-married couple from Delhi at the Colva beach when the husband met a watery grave after a banana boat overturned and capsized on Sunday evening.
Twenty-seven-year-old Yogesh Agrawal drowned, while his wife Neha (22), who survived, was admitted to Hospicio for treatment.
Colva PI Edwin Colaco informed that the police has registered a case of negligence against the boat operator and the assistant under section 304-A of the IPC.
He said the police has identified the boat owner as one Mohammed and further investigations are on.
The incident occurred at around 4.30 pm when the couple who was on a honeymoon to Goa decided to take a ride on the banana boat.
Colva police said Yogesh died after the boat overturned. He was brought dead to the hospital. Neha, who survived the accident, is convalescing at Hospicio.
The couple is believed to have had tied the marriage knot only a week ago. It is learnt that they had visited some of the popular tourist places in North and had come to Colva for sight seeing.
Even as the Colva police is investigating the case, this is the second death due to drowning involving a banana boat. A helper employed on a boat had drowned last year, bringing to the fore the safety of people taking a joy ride on these boats.
