The 19-year-old pillion rider, Sanika Mone, lost her life following a collision at Sirsaim on January 26, 2024. The unfortunate incident occurred around 9 p.m. near the Zarapkar petrol pump on the railway bridge.
Sanika Mone, a student at Vidya Prabodhini College Porvorim, was travelling with her friend Tejashree Joshi on a bike. The duo was en route from Sirsaim to Bicholim when their scooter collided with an oncoming car on the railway bridge in Sirsaim.
The impact of the collision caused Sanika Mone, who was the pillion rider, to fall onto the road, sustaining severe injuries. She was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, where she fought for her life but tragically succumbed to her injuries on Monday, February 5.
The Colvale police have registered a case of culpable homicide by negligent driving against the bike rider Tejashree Joshi under sections 279, 338, 336, and 304 A of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway.
