Transport Dept for facilitation centres at panchayats

Will have people avail of online services; Department set to implement projects in three months

PANJIM: Transport Department will propose that the government have facilitation centres at the panchayat level for the effective implementation of the online services of the department.
The Department is trying to implement the Vahan 4.0 and Saarthi projects in three months. The pilot project has been taken up at the Assistant Director Transport office at Tiswadi and after tightening all loopholes the projects will be implemented.
“The idea was to have a facilitation centre at the respective ADT offices but that won’t solve the purpose and the centre would be crowded, which is why we are thinking of facilitation centres at all panchayats by giving necessary infrastructure,” Prakash Azavedo, Deputy Director (North), Transport, said. He said that some standard fees could be notified by the government for the facilitation centres.
The department is thinking of having such centres based on the computer literacy of the State. “It is not possible for every individual to apply online nor is everyone aware of computer use, so in that case the crowd at the offices will not decrease,” Azavedo said.
The fees can be paid through debit and credit cards, the centres would have broadband connectivity and infrastructure and staff, the officer said. After approval from the government and the concerned departments the same would be pushed for implementation,” Azavedo said.
Currently the department has a complete digital database ready and is in the process of redesigning the website.
