From Khaki clad officers to soft spoken guys, the Transport Department intends to change the way they greet visitors in their offices.
Director of Transport Venancio Furtado has asked its officers in khaki (RTO officers) to take a back seat on the counters in RTO offices as people hesitate to seek any information from them.
“Inorder to give relief to general public, we have asked the RTO officers not to sit in the front rows of counter in offices,” Furtado said.
He said that people hesitate to approach officers in Khaki. “This can say on my personal experience,” he added.
Director said that there is no enough staff with the department as such RTO officers prefer to sit at the main counter to deal with people.
“RTO officers are must while making any deals. We can’t ask them not to sit in the offices but we can make them seat behind,” Furtado said.
He said that as most of the people approaches office mostly for availing licenses, they think that if they don’t behave properly with the man in khaki, then he will fail them in driving test.
“I came to know from people about such fear,” Furtado said.
The department is trying to take services of pre employment training staff to deal with public at the counters. Department has also asked for more staff from government.
