Transport Min defends govt stance on digital meters

PANJIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has defended the government’s stance with respect to the mandatory installation of digital meters by taxi owners in Goa.

While addressing media, Godinho said this renewal of permits will be a smooth process as they have simplified the formalities.

The minister also rejected the demand of the taxi owners that it be given to them directly for free and pointed out as per the prevailing financial rules, the government cannot pay the vendor directly and can only do so after the taxi owners pay for their individual meters.
