VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Thursday said that government will review the process of granting permits for rent-a-car operators and will try to reduce the number of rent-a-bike for every applicant so as to reduce accidents involving tourists and to ensure safe roads.
Godinho said that most of his cabinet colleagues have requested him not to issue more permits to rent-a-car operators since there are too many vehicles on the road and in the absence of adequate parking areas, people are parking their vehicles in a haphazard manner even in front of somebody’s houses and blocking their access. He said that such type of situation cannot be allowed beyond a certain point and therefore the government will review the whole scheme.
Referring to the demands made rent-a-bike operators, the Minister said that it was another big problem as permits were given to them in the past without application of mind. He clarified that he had till date not approved a single new licence for the last eight months and that he will not clear it till it is streamlined.
