PANJIM: Heavy rain on Monday continued to wreck havoc in and around Panjim leaving several areas water logged, while a tree opposite a bank crashed on 5 parked vehicles.
A tree in front of ICICI bank in Panjim and located close to the old office of former Panjim MLA & Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar collapsed in the morning. The tree fell on five cars that were parked there and it also damaged the footpath. However, there were no injuries to any persons.
The tree was cleared by Fire & Emergency services and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Furthermore, at the Corlim Primary Health Centre (PHC), wood planks from the false ceiling fell inside the health Centre.
Sources said that there were complaints in the past about the leaking ceiling and the dilapidated wooden planks. Incidentally a fan has been installed on the wooden beam that is connected to the ceiling which is near the area where the wooden planks broke away and fell.
These planks fell on the ground and on the tables that had laptops and other equipment. A person suffered minor injuries while there was dust everywhere that covered the laptops and even clothes of some of the persons inside at that point of time.
When this incident occurred, the vaccination drive at the PHC was underway which got delayed and had to be shifted to the panchayat area.
