Tree crashes on govt workshop at Poinguinim

CANACONA, JULY 24 A cashew tree came crashing down on a government carpentry workshop at Iddar-Poinguinim, while a residential house collapsed at Palolem, as heavy rains lashed Canacona taluka on Saturday.

A cashew tree came crashing down on a government carpentry workshop at Iddar-Poinguinim, while a residential house collapsed at Palolem, as heavy rains lashed Canacona taluka on Saturday.
The government carpentry workshop, presently used as a saw mill, suffered a loss of about Rs 40,000, informed the Canacona fire services.
Firefighters later cleared the cashew tree which brought down a part of the government’s carpentry unit.
This unit was previously used by ITI students as a workshop to study carpentry trade, while the staff also operated the premises for other trade related activities, earning revenue to the government.
Lately, residents have complained that this unit is now a white elephant, which has bben poorly maintained by authorities.
In another includent, a house with mud walls collapsed at Palolem, causing a loss of Rs 35,000 to the owner, Ulhas Dessai.
