PONDA: It was a miraculous escape for a woman on Tuesday after a huge mango tree crashed on her hut at Galashirem in Kavlem Panchayat jurisdiction, rendering her homeless.

Shalini Ragu Naik said that she was alone in the hut when the incident took place. Following a loud noise, the locals rushed to help her and moved her to a safer location. The impact was such that her entire hut was destroyed, but she escaped unhurt.
Shalini said that she is now homeless as her house has been damaged completely and at present she has moved to her neighbour’s house. She urged the government to provide her some relief by restoring her hut.
The huge tree uprooted also damaged the slab of a neighbouring house owned by Suresh Naik. A television and electrical goods were damaged in the incident.
The Ponda fire personnel later cleared the tree.
