CANACONA: Canacona’s commercial town, Chaudi, lost power supply from Thursday night to Friday afternoon after a branch of a mango tree brought down an electricity alignment.
According to residents, the mango tree stands somewhere between KTC bus stand and the old telephone exchange building. At around 10 pm, the branch fell and took out the entire alignment in the process.
When locals informed the electricity officials, they were told the power could not be restored until the branch was removed. Due to the officials’ callousness, the locals informed that they had to spend the night without power. Fire service officials cut the branch only late Friday morning.
Interestingly, another branch of the same mango tree was found resting on an unused telephone pole and a coconut tree on Friday evening.
Motorists, especially two-wheeler owners, park their vehicles on the road before proceeding by bus to the KTC stand. Residents stated that the branch would have destroyed several vehicles if it had fallen during the day.
