PANJIM, OCT 15
Children’s Court today adjourned the trial in the Scarlet Keeling Eden after the counsel for alleged accused Placido Carvalho sought time to study the Court order that rejected his plea about the juvenile’s missing diary pages.
Advocate Jos Peter D’Souza requested the Court to furnish the order copy to examine on what grounds the plea was cancelled following which it may decide filing an appeal.
President P V Sawaikar adjourned the matter for October 27 when Adv D’Souza will cross-examine the shack waiter and witness Murali Sagar.
The counsel’s application, alleging that few pages from Scarlet’s personal diary were missing, was rejected by the Court earlier this month.
CBI counsel PP Rivonkar had countered the allegation stating that all pages in the diary were intact. In July 2010, Scarlet’s mother, Fiona Mackeown had identified the diary and its contents during the case trial.
The defense counsel during her cross-examination on August 27 pointed out that few pages of the diary were missing. The sketches of the diary had revealed several hidden facets of the school girl’s life.
Scarlet’s bruised semi-clad corpse was found on the Anjuna shore on February 18, 2008. Two locals – Samson D’Souza and Placido Carvalho have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, outraging modesty of a woman and administering stupefying drug.
The case initially investigated by Goa police was later handed over to CBI on May 31, 2008.
