MARGAO: In a bid to address the public grievance over the risky junction on the highway that is a perennial accident zone, the Traffic Department has started a trial run of the new traffic signals.

The traffic signals are at the place where the new and old highway road meets (Navelim) and this is aimed at bringing down the number of accidents as well as helping the Traffic Police to take action on errant riders and drivers of vehicles.

It may be recalled that the locals of Navelim had been demanding for a flyover to be built here due to the high number of accidents. The demand for a flyover has been put forward to Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, who had inspected the site, recently.

As per the Traffic Police, the trial run is being carried out to also test the timings for the signals and that the same can be tweaked in a few days when the traffic signals are fully operational. There are also plans of installing a high mast and CCTV cameras to monitor traffic movement.
