Tribal Bhavan likely to face hurdle

PANJIM: The proposed Tribal Bhavan at Porvorim is likely to face hurdles following strong opposition by the rival faction of Gomantak Gaud Maratha Samaj, who have claimed that the land was earlier allotted to them.  

Gomantak Gaud Maratha Samaj president Madhu Nonu Gaonkar alleged that community members reportedly formed a parallel association and gifted the plot of land to the Tribal Welfare department.

Gomantak Gaud Maratha Samaj advisor Dinesh Jalmi claimed that their association was registered in 1962 and that in 1987 they acquired a plot of land from Communidade of Serula and alleged in 1995 some of the community members formed a rival association and misguided the State government. by claiming that the land was in their possession.

Jalmi said that their association have strongly opposed the transfer of land to the government department based on false documents and threatened that they will now knock the doors of the court to seek justice.
