MARGAO: Cuncolim Municipal Council officials have landed in trouble with an Anti-Corruption Bureau probe unearthing suspicious and doubtful transactions in the purchase and delivery of CFL bulbs and fittings.
Based on the ACB probe, Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes has lodged an FIR with the Crime Branch for criminal investigation into the case. The FIR was registered after the government gave its go-ahead signal to probe the matter from the corruption angle.
Sources in the ACB said the inquiry has suspected misappropriation of the CFL bulbs. Investigation and statements recorded of councillors revealed that each of the 10 city fathers had received around 20 bulbs each, while the tender was floated for around 885 bulbs. “There’s nothing on record to show delivery of the tendered number of bulbs. A signature was found on the book, but mystery remains whether it’s the signature of the civic officials or the councillors”, sources said.
