Dabose, a small hamlet in Sattari taluka in the jurisdiction of Valpoi Municipal Council, has been neglected and is struggling for facilities like garbage clearance and proper drainage system. Pending for eight years is a footbridge from Dabose to Valpoi. The distance between Dabose and Valpoi is hardly a kilometer but to this seasonal rivulet, people during the monsoon, have to travel via Dharkhan to reach Valpoi, which is almost four times journey. The footbridge would reduce the distance drastically.
In 2008, the foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane and the bridge stands over the rivulet without approach roads on either side. The government has spent crores of rupees to construct the bridge but it cannot be used.
Sources said that work was tendered for the bridge construction and not for an approach road, so the contractor completed his work. The tender for the approach road was never floated.
The PWD has already submitted a proposal for the approach roads but no sanction has been received from the higher officials, sources at the PWD Valpoi office said.
The bridge would help not just residents of Dabose but also from Massorde. There are many plantations on the other side of this rivulet which belong to residents of Massorde. If the bridge is opened it would be an important links between villages like Dabose, Massorde, Dharkhan, Sonal and Sawarde.
Shiva Dhuri of Dabose said the Valpoi MLA has struggled for this bridge but the government machinery is playing mischief.
