Truck owners ask CM to legalise sand mining

MARGAO: The Margao Truck Owners Transport Association (MTOTA) submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar requesting that the government permit sand extraction in Goa as the truck drivers were being harassed by the Maharashtra and Goa governments.

“The truck owners who transport sand from Kudal, Maharashtra have been harassed by Kudal authorities, who impose heavy fines between Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 per trip per truck. The trucks registered in Maharashtra are never fined, and they are not fined in Goa either. Our trucks are also fined by the Goa government when we reach Goa, despite paying a fine in Maharashtra,” said MTOTA Secretary Prashant Acharya.
“In this precarious situation, we are unable to earn anything. Our families are left to die in hunger,” he  said.
