Truck owners demand higher transportation fee per km

MARGAO: The Truck Drivers Association affiliated to the Shiv Sena has demanded a minimum of Rs 20 per km for transportation of ore and want that the government mediate to get the same done.

The truckers claim to have spent lakhs of rupees in repairing and getting the trucks road worthy and are now being paid peanuts.
The association claimed that the cost fixed for ore transportation by the Supreme Court is getting lowered and is falling to Rs 8 and 9 in place of Rs 11.
“Mining transport began with government intervention and by opening of Sesa Mines. But truckers got payments at an all-time low. The reality is that they are back in trouble by restarting their trucks spending lakhs of rupees,” said Sudesh Bhise.
Shiv Sena also alleged that BJP MLAs in mining areas are benefiting from mining. “The government and their MLAs are playing divisive tactics by bribing and spreading rumours and breaking associations. It is time BJP stop their MLAs from interfering in the decision making,” demanded Shiv Sena Goa chief Adv Ajit Singh Rane.
The association has also decided to send a representation to the Supreme Court seeking justice on the issue.
