PANJIM: Azad Jamatul Muslimmeen Welfare Trust has petitioned State government demanding vigilance inquiry against Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Commissioner, Mayor, NGPDA member secretary and others for illegal encroachment of the burial ground at St Inez.
In its complaints, the trust has warned to approach High Court if government fails to take appropriate action against the authorities involved in the illegal act.
“Since September 19, 2017, CCP has restricted the residents of St Cruz, Merces and Bambolim from burying the bodies at St Inez kabrastan due to limited space,” Trust president Sayed Manzoor Kadri said in a press statement.
“But we came to know that Commissioner with the help of senior consultant on December 26, 2016 encroached upon the burial ground land of 836 sq mts in the name of garden, open space of development of crematorium, kabrastan, khoja kabrastan and lingayat burial ground and NGPDA approved the same plan. The move was to help a local builder,” he alleged.
The trust has approached government for necessary investigation and action.
