PERNEM: The residents of Murmuse in Tuem have submitted a memorandum to Pernem Deputy Collector Chandrakant Shetkar opposing the plan by a company to erect a mobile tower in their locality.
Informing the deputy collector that there is an ongoing boundary dispute between Tuem panchayat and Pernem municipality, the residents told him that till the dispute is solved, on mobile tower should be installed in Murmuse.
Last month, permission was given to thecompany to set up a mobile tower in survey number 273. However, the residents claim that the area is residential and installing a mobile tower there would affect the health of the people residing there.
They informed the deputy collector that a resolution was also passed in the gram sabha that no NOC should be issued to the company to install the tower.
According to the memorandum, despite opposition from the local panchayat, the owner is building the tower using his power.
“Radiation from the tower will affect the people residing in this area and hence there is a danger to the health of the residents,” the memorandum reads as.
Responding to the complaint of Murmuse residents, Shetkar said that a decision on the border dispute between the Tuem panchayat and Pernem municipality would be taken by the government. Therefore, he asked the Murmuse residents not to disturb the peace in the locality on account of the mobile tower.
Pernem Municipal Chief Officer Mandar Naik said that the No Objection Certificate was given by the municipality to set up a tower in Murmuse, since survey number 273 falls under Pernem municipal jurisdiction.
